SPORTS CARE - caring for the people of elite sport
What is Sports Care?
Sports Care is a charity dedicated to supporting individuals in elite sport, with a special focus on Olympic and Paralympic disciplines.
Elite sport is often seen as glamorous—a world where people perform on the big stage doing what they love. But behind the scenes, the journey to get there can be challenging and relentless. Even at the top, the platform is fragile, and transitioning from life as an athlete or coach back to everyday life can be daunting.
At our core, we are Christians who love God and love people. We believe in putting that love into action by caring for the people of elite sport. Our commitment is to every person—regardless of faith, background, race, gender, or where they are on their elite sporting journey. We are here to walk alongside them, providing physical, emotional, mental and spiritual support when it’s needed most.
Sports Care has 3 main elements
· Chaplaincy at Major events and support in the in between
· Holistic Wellness
· The_Christian _Athlete
And 2 additional services in The Christian Athlete arm coming Mid 2026
. School Resources
. Christian Athlete Speaker Network
Chaplaincy & Support
Chaplaincy for all those involved in sport - the athlete, coach, staff, official and all their families
We make chaplains accessible at major events, during the in-between moments, the tough days, the ordinary days, and even into retirement.
The individual chooses the type of support they want and when they need it. We focus on emotional, mental, spiritual and physical.

The Story Of Sports Care
Sports Care was founded by Hannah Johnson, a sports chaplain with firsthand experience in elite sport. Hannah competed herself and journeyed alongside her twin sister, whose Olympic dream was shattered just days before the Opening Ceremony at the Beijing 2008 Olympics due to injury.
That moment—and many others shared with athletes, coaches, and officials—revealed a deep need: someone independent, safe, and understanding who could walk alongside people in the high-pressure world of elite sport. Someone who truly gets it. From that conviction, Sports Care was born: to offer holistic support to those in sport, at Major Events and in the quieter in-betweens, all the way through to retirement and beyond.
Launched in 2019, Sports Care has weathered its own challenges, including Hannah’s unexpected health journey. But those setbacks have only strengthened our resolve to grow sustainably and serve well. In 2025, we relaunched spent much of the year across the globe supporting athletes at Major Events.
Whether you're an athlete, part of the elite sport family, a supporter, donor, partner church or business, or a school engaging with our resources—we’re glad you’re here. Let’s connect and walk this next season together.
FUNDING
Sports Care exists because of the generosity of individuals, churches, and businesses whose support allows us to reach into sporting environments that many will never personally experience, yet are regularly inspired, entertained, and challenged by. Your contribution helps us stand alongside athletes (the people) in the high‑pressure world of elite sport, offering care, encouragement, and hope where it’s needed most.
You can support this work by using the Donate Here button at the top right of the page, or by emailing hannah.j@sportschaplaincy.org to explore how you or your organisation might partner with us.
